Somatic teaching is the practice of turning inward — learning to read the signals your body has been sending all along, and discovering that regulation, strength, and freedom live inside your own nervous system.
It's not about fixing your body. It's about befriending it.
The word somatic comes from the Greek soma — meaning "the living body." Somatic teaching is an approach that uses the body itself as the primary site of learning, healing, and transformation.
Rather than thinking your way through a problem, somatic practice invites you to feel your way through. It works with the nervous system — not against it — to release stored tension, regulate stress responses, and build a felt sense of safety that stays with you long after the mat folds.
In Stefanie's studio, somatic teaching is woven into everything. Whether you're in a barre class, a breathwork session, or a 1:1 coaching conversation, the invitation is the same: come home to your body.
Every path in the studio leads back to the same place: yourself. Choose the door that speaks to where you are right now.
Come back to baseline. Breathwork, EFT, and heart-brain coherence tools that calm the nervous system and bring you home to yourself.
Somatic movement, body scans, and shaking discharge — let your body complete the stress cycle and move what's stuck.
Nighttime wind-down affirmations and identity-level rewiring — the deep inner work that changes how you see yourself.
You don't need a mat or a studio. Just a few minutes and a willingness to feel.
A simple but powerful breath pattern that activates your parasympathetic nervous system. Inhale for 4 counts, hold for 7, exhale for 8. This ratio slows the heart rate, lowers cortisol, and signals safety to the brain.
Start with 3 cycles. Work up to 8. Best done seated, eyes closed, shoulders soft.
Place one hand on your heart, one on your belly. Breathe into the space between them. Ask: "What am I protecting myself from right now?" Don't fix it. Just witness.
→ Builds the habit of noticing before reactingCross your arms over your chest, hands on opposite shoulders. Gently alternate tapping — left, right, left, right — like a slow heartbeat. Soothes the nervous system in 60 seconds.
→ Creates safety without forcing shutdownOnce a week, ask for something low-stakes. A different table. Help with a small task. The goal isn't getting what you want — it's teaching your body that asking doesn't end in danger.
→ Build the muscle in safe places firstThink of someone you love. Feel that warmth, that fullness. When your heart is full enough — switch the thought to you. Hold the feeling. This is what it feels like to be prioritized, important, and loved.
→ Generate the feeling, then redirect it inwardSafety isn't the same as aliveness. When I'm teaching, I'm not protected — I'm present. And it costs me nothing. It actually fills me.
